Top reasons why people hate the gym
Top reasons why people hate the gym are wide and varied, some reasons are more common than others. Where do you fit into these reason and what is the solution.Below each reason I will look at ways to stop the problem preventing you from achieving your exercise goals.
Gym Memberships are Expensive
The of making monthly payments or a large up front sum can be a deterrent from joining your local gym. Combining gym costs with the cost of travel to the gym multiplies the expense. Lock-In contracts add further stress.
Budget 24/7 gyms offer part of the solution if you live close to the gym. Rural locations with long drive times like rural areas near Gympie (Wolvi, Goomboorian) may find the cost of having a home gym is better value.
I don’t like people watching me
The next on our list of top reasons why people hate the gym is being self Conscious. A fear of judgement by other is very common. If this describes you then you are not alone. Everyone at the gym has their own personal struggles and their own exercise to focus and may not notice you are there. Some of the other top reasons for not wanting to go to the gym contribute to feeling being self conscious. Overcoming the other top reasons reduces anxiety of being in a gym setting and therefore more exercise consistency achieved. Training at home also eliminate much of the anxiety because you are in full control of who can see you working out.
I don’t know what I am doing, I might hurt myself
When you are new to working out in a gym and worried about injury, you are not alone.Poor technique when exercising causes injury. The solution however is education. Good gyms will give basic instructions on how to use the machines but wont completely solve the problem. Gyms have personal trainers on staff for extra cost. Having a trainer or coach is a wise investment for injury prevention. Not all coaches are the same, Injuries and health problems require a more highly qualified trainer. Independent trainers are often more experienced and will be able to come to you at your home or other location. Knowing how to do the exercises reduces gym anxiety during independent exercise.
Lack of time
Another big reason people dislike the gym is that they don’t have the time to use it. Travel time to the gym also contributes to the lack of time. Setting aside travel time with the time needed to train make this a large barrier to gym training. Anxiety about being able to fit in your workout leads to rushing your training placing you at increased injury risk. Again, this is where having equipment at home helps. Exercise is short blocks of time is effective [1] and finding time for short bouts of exercise is more manageable to fit in a busy lifestyle. A home gym further eliminate the need to set aside large chunks of time to travel to the gym. A mobile personal trainer or coach can further reduce your time commitment and make your training program time efficient while still achieving results.
